| A. John Doe Homeless |
Typically, governing agencies come up with the wrong solution to a given problem. Up to 2005, the cost of housing has increased over 20 times while wage earnings increased less than 20%! To compare on my local scale, in 1951 Santa Rosas population was 17,000 and by 2005 had grown to 170,000 (a 10 times increase in about 50 years). The homeless population in 1994 estimated at about 150 had grown to 1,700 by 2005 (a 10 times increase in about 10 years). This is proportionate to other areas. . . and nationally. . . and is increasing in it's rate of growth! These imbalanced figures are not a consequence of the influx of new arrivals, but a residual affect to local folks from the increased housing costs attributed to new arrivals. So much for "growth being good for the economy". A few do benefit, but at the expense to so many others. By 2007, the recent count of homeless population exceeded 2,200 (that they could find) with fewer shelter beds available than the 280 available in 1991!!? *Progress!? A recent
attempt (at a solution) not only
fails to solve problems (IE: complaints regarding the homeless) but
creates new problems, and h
as never even eased the
original problem (just moves it to additional areas). Not only are there concerns regarding
discrimination against the homeless and economically disadvantaged, and the need to
stop homeless hate crimes, but
also to
decriminalize homelessness and
stop violating Civil Rights!! Criminal charges should be applied to the crime
committed. It is
illegal to
generalize by
stereotyping and
unfairly target the economically disadvantaged. It only disrupts attempts to improve, but moreover is a
violation of Civil Rights to
stereotype, profile, discriminate or commit hate crimes against, or criminally charge someone for just being
black,
gay,
Jewish, or "
Homeless"!?
Awareness of this gross injustice is necessary, otherwise fewer people will be in a position to see it corrected. Think! Where are the homeless populations coming from (this increasing number of people just trying to live within their means)!? Consider the advantages of reducing that population instead of persecuting these victims of current economic imbalances!!?!
